So You Think You Can Dance Season 6 Top 18 Performance & Elimination

With 18 dancers left in the competition, who will stand out?  Who will be a disappointment?  Who will show a big improvement?  Another night where the decision lies to the judges.  Who’s safe and who’s not?

I’m expecting that there would be a group routine for the Top 18 but unfortunately, there’s none.  Before the performances, each couple would give the best and worst of their partners.  Let’s critique each performance.

Noelle & Russell (Hip-Hop)

After Noelle’s injury, she’s back with her partner Russell to compete as a couple.  Choreographed by a new choreographer Jamal Sims, this routine shows a couple having a tennis match, with a tennis racket as their props.  Russell of course did nailed it, but for Noelle, though it doesn’t seem she came from an injury, is not that snappy.  She needs to have the swagger, as what Nigel always say last season.  They used Move Shake Drop (Remix) by DJ Laz, Flo Rida & Casely as their music.

Jakob & Ashleigh (Viennese Waltz)

This dance should be a wedding dance but for me, it’s not believable knowing that Jakob is somewhat on the soft side (you know what I mean) and Ashleigh is married.  The technicality is there but connection between them, I don’t think so.  And the choreo by Melanie Lapatin & Tony Meredith is not that exciting as other Waltz routine before.  But still, I want them in the Top 10.  Music is At Last by Etta James.

Victor & Bianca (Broadway)

This is one of Tyce Diorio’s terrible choreography.  I don’t know why did he chose this type of music and choreo but for me, I don’t like it.  Since this is like a dance of praise, it seems to be too scripted when it comes to emotions.  You don’t feel anything.  But then again, the technique is there.  I don’t like Bianca here.  She’s better last week in a contemporary routine.  Victor is always a good technician, one of my Top 10.  Their music is Maybe  God Is Tryin’ To Tell You Something from The Color Purple Soundtrack.

Mollee & Nathan (Bollywood)

The freshest and cutest couple is ON to nail it!  One of the hardest routine to dance, Nakul Dev Mahajan, created a dance of a warrior prince who is going to war that his princess doesn’t like.  Though they look very young, but they really matured in this dance, especially Mollee.  The best performance for me this night.  An Indian music, Azeem O Shaan Shahenshah from Jodhaa Akbar Soundtrack was used in this routine.

Phillip & Channing (Samba)

The least like routine for the night.  Why?  Lifts are too stressing and not exciting.  Emotions are not that strong and seems like the enjoyment is not there.  Channing did a great job in her hips action and her hotness meter is high!  But I think she’s a lesbo…hehehe!  Phillip?  I don’t like him at all.  Choreographed by Melanie Lapatin & Tony Meredith, Maracatu Funk by The Samba Squad was used in this dance.

Kevin & Karen (Hip-Hop)

I’m loving Karen!  Known as a Latin Dancer, Karen really showed a hot hip-hop dancer within her!  I think she’s really versatile and very very hot!  Kevin is just a so so performer though it’s his genre.  He was eaten by Karen’s prescence.  But all in all, I like this performance and both are in the Hot Tamale Train!  Choo choo! A routine by Tabitha and Napoleon, showing a story of a mechanic and a hot girl visiting his shop.  Ice Cream Paint Job by Dorrough was used in this routine.

Legacy & Kathryn (Contemporary)

Stacey Tookey is really a genius! A Mia Michaels in the making!  I think this is one of Legacy’s performance out of his comfort zone.  So much emotion was given to the dance by the couple, but not obsessed with the routine.  The best part was when Legacy jumped and wrapped himself to Kathryn’s body!  Didn’t expect that she can carry Legacy for a few seconds!  I was not hooked by what emotions should bring to the audience but not bad.  2 Steps Away by Patti LaBelle was their music.

Peter & Pauline (Jazz)

Wade and Amanda Robson, you are really geniusly weird!  Having the concept was Vincent Van Gogh’s Starry Night is really out of this world.  I won’t even think that a choreographer will use it’s history in a dance!  Pauline is great but I think she’s really small but a great thing is she can e

xtend.  Peter is versatile like Bianca and way better than Phillip.  Hopefully they will make it great again next week!  Don’t want to lose another Pinoy in the show!  A non familiar song, Little Green Bag by George Baker Selection was used in this dance.

Ryan & Ellenore (Argentine Tango)

The final couple of the night really nailed it!  A Miriam Larici & Leonardo Barrionuevo routine with Violentango by Astor Piazzolla as their music, the couple showed their versatiliy and strength!

They are so much in character and the techniques are great!  And KUDOS to Ellenore because she didn’t stop and just concentrate in the dance while her a part of her dress was hooked into her heels!  Expecting a great performance again next week!

The Bottom 4

Bianca, Noelle, Phillip and Victor are in the bottom 4.  No regrets because I did think that they should be really at the bottom.  Same choices to leave the competition, Bianca and Phillip, who are both tappers.  But if there’s only one of them to stay, it should be Bianca.  And of you were asked to dance for your life, you have to show that you’re worth staying!  Tappers are not good at that compared to contemporary dancers.
