Movie Review: Serendipity (2001)

I’ve heard a lot of stories from my friends that this film is good. Too bad that it’s my first time to watch it after 9 years it was shown…hehehe! But I’m so fortunate that I’ve watched this…and it feels good to fall in love again.

Serendipity, as per Merriam-Webster Dictionary, is “the faculty or phenomenon of finding valuable or agreeable things not sought for; also : an instance of this.” Sarah, the character played by Kate Beckingsale, is in love with this word because as per her, the word means “unfortunate accident.” Jonathan, played by John Cusack, was seem to be her soulmate. They met inside a mall while planning to buy a gift for their boyfriend and girlfriend. They both decided to buy a green-coloured pair of gloves but there is only one stock and the story started there. The setting was in New York during the Holidays. The highlight of the movie is when they met again in a skating rink, on a snowy night, saw the pair of gloves again and kissed.

We used to say that if it’s destined to us, then so be it. But sometimes, I believe that we control our own destiny. So it’s more of a free-will, not a destiny. I don’t know if this really happens but I hope it is. Surrounding yourself with positive energy and believing in predestination might be a key to our dreams and aspirations. But still, it’s still God who knows what will happen next.

Movie Review: The Maid (2009)

This is a story of a maid from the Philippines, starting her first job during the Ghost Month in Singapore.  She served a family that runs a Chinese Opera.  Since it’s her first time in Singapore and dealing with the Chinese culture, she need to learn about more about the culture especially during the Ghost Month.  And also, she must know the history of the family that working at…or else, she’ll be dead.  This movie won the European Fantastic Film Festival Federation (EFFFF) Asian Film Award at the 10th Puchon International Fantastic Film Festival (PiFan). The EFFFF Asian Film Award is a prize awarded to the best Asian film of the year by the federation, of which PiFan is a supporting member.

I love watching Asian horror movies because I find them more scary than the Western ones.  Since this is a Singaporean film, it seems that the way it was created was the same as the other Asian horror movies I’ve watched…you can really feel the horror and suspense in it.  The characters did their part well, especially Alessandra de Rossi who played the new maid.  I like the twist in the story, which you need to watch out for.  So if in case you’ll visit a new country, be sure to learn a bit of their culture, their celebrations during the month of your vacation, and the people you’ll be dealing with. All in all, I really love this movie and wanted to try watching it again, but now, it should be in the evening, all lights closed and very quite…hehehe!  Very creepy!

Linggit Tan, ABS-CBN’s Senior-VP for TV and Entertainment, released a statement a few days ago regarding the issue with Willie Revillame’s contract and going back to Wowowee exactly July 31 of this year.  Here is a video from The Buzz:

Now, after hearing the side of ABS-CBN towards this incident, let’s get to know Willie Revillame‘s side. Watch this report from Paparazzi, an entertainment program in TV 5  which is cut into two parts:

After watching Willie’s side, I really don’t know who to believe!  Their statements are very contradicting.  Linggit is representing ABS-CBN and Willie for himself.  If Linggit is lying, then the network’s name is at stake.  So it’s up to the viewers whom to viewers.  Only God knows who’s telling the truth.

Verni Varga – Number One

Thanks to my friend Jhoms for informing me that Verni Varga sang the original version of Number One, which is the theme song of ABS-CBN’s new show, Idol.  The re-make of this song has two versions; 1. Sarah Geronimo and 2. Idol Cast.  I’m not born yet when this song was released so that’s why I didn’t know it.

Below is the version by Verni Varga.  I’m sorry because the sample I found in Youtube has an additional song, which is “A Little Kiss, A Little Hug”.

I was out so I wasn’t able to watch The Buzz a while ago.  I searched Pokwang’s interview to know more about the issues and controversies about her.  After reading some articles about her way back, I can say that she has a lot of detractors.  Why?  Because she is now famous and the more you get famous, more people will get envy of you.  Even how good a person is, each of us has their own limit…boiling point if I may describe it.  If you reach that point, you can really hurt somebody: physically and emotionally.  It’s easy to say to just ignore everything…but you can’t get away of it unless you face it.  Good thing that Pokwang is surrounded by good people.  Family and friends who loves her, who knows who the real Pokwang is, ready to defend her and make her happy even for just a while.  God knows who’s the real victim.  Just leave everything to Him.  And don’t forget…forgiveness will give you peace of mind.

Just saw a tweet and wanted to inform you guys.

Hydrocleaning in Singapore

A few days ago, I heard a different noise in the hallway.  A running motor and a whooshing sound.  I went out the door and saw a man holding a hose and cleaning the hallway.  I was amazed that instead of sweeping the floor, he used a pressurized water to clean the it.  Thanks to Google and I found out that this is called Hydrocleaning.

Hydrocleaning, also known as high pressure cleaning or waterblasting, is the use of water propelled at high speeds to clean surfaces and materials.  This is used to remove paint from walls, metals and highways; rubber from runways; sealants and membranes from concretes; and gum from side walks.  Though it’s easier to clean the streets because it saves time, it’s a bit expensive because of the use of water, which is not re-usable after because it goes directly to canals and sewers.  But nonetheless, this is a good way of cleaning the streets.  Since dust is the most common dirt found in the hallways here in Singapore, it’s a very effective and productive way to clean it.

A few years back, after I’ve seen a lot of club DJs, I wanted to be one of them! Since I love clubbing, I download a lot of club mixes of different songs. I have a friend who is working on this field and I asked his advise on what program is best for beginners…then he advised me Audacity.

I’ve downloaded the latest version, which is Audacity ver 1.3.7 (Beta), and tried playing with it. The first thing I did was to remove the vocals of a song. And it was successful though you can still hear the vocals which is echoing. I just need to learn how to polish the song.

Here is a screenshot of Audacity ver 1.3.7 to show how it looks like.  You can see the it’s like Photoshop with a lot of options.  You can just search for tutorials through Google or Youtube if you’re a beginner.  I’m now trying to play around with it more and release the inner DJ in me…hehehe!

Lady Antebellum – Need You Now

It’s very hard to be away from your loved one, emotionally stressful.  When you’re lonely and you want someone to talk to or just a simple hug, no one’s there.  In times like this, I need you now….

Need You Now by Lady Antebellum

Picture perfect memories, scattered all around the floor.
Reaching for the phone cause, I can’t fight it any more.
And I wonder if I ever cross your mind.
For me it happens all the time.

It’s a quarter after one, I’m all alone and I need you now.
I said I wouldn’t call but I lost all control and I need you now.
And I don’t know how I can do without, I just need you now.

Another shot of whiskey, can’t stop looking at the door.
Wishing you’d come sweeping in the way you did before.
And I wonder if I ever cross your mind.
For me it happens all the time.

It’s a quarter after one, I’m a little drunk and I need you now.
I said I wouldn’t call but I lost all control and I need you now.
And I don’t know how I can do without, I just need you now.

I guess I’d rather hurt than feel nothing at all.

It’s a quarter after one, I’m all alone and I need you now.
And I said I wouldn’t call, but I’m a little drunk and I need you now.
And I don’t know how I can do without, I just need you now.

I just need you now.

Oh baby I need you now.
